Xperia Z is a thin phone. Usually thin phones are vulnerable for overheat.

Do not play 3D games while charging. 2D games are okay but playing 3D is very extensive to.both processor and GPU

Lower you screen brightness especially in charging

Underclock and set profiles for apps like browsing or playing (kernel tuner or aother underclocked apps) root not needed.

Don't use cases for xperia z. Without case, your xperia z can free dissipates the heat.

Undervoltage for root users.

Use wifi instead of 3G connnection. 3G and 4G are power hungry that contributes more heat than wifi.

Rest between usage.
